GLVK coaching model

GVLK provides tennis training to players of different ages and with various levels of playing skills. Our main goals are:

-          Providing professional tennis coaching at a high level

-          Creating an enthusiastic and motivating atmosphere

-          Making tennis training an enjoyable experience

Whether you wish to compete in tennis or if you see the sport just as a nice recreational activity, GVLK offers you tennis training suitable for your needs through its carefully planned coaching model.

Players, showing sufficient progress and enthusiasm in both training and competitive circumstances, have the opportunity to enter the “Competition Coaching”-group. Younger players, wishing to gradually start playing competitive matches form the “Pre-Competion Coaching”-group (from 8 years upwards) while our youngest team-members (aged between 6 and 8) are trained in the “Mini-Team”-group. We offer tennis training as a recreational activity to both junior (under 20) and senior players (over 20) through our various “Junior Coaching” and “Senior Coaching”-groups respectively.

Our highly skilled tennis coaches all have formal education according to standards set by the Finnish Tennis Federation (STL).

Effective communication with parents is seen as very important, thus the club organises information evenings for parents twice a year. GVLK is a secure growing environment for children and youth and we like to see tennis coaching as a part of their upbringing process.

GVLK encourages junior players to participate in competitions and compensates participation fees according to predefined criteria.

The “Competition Coaching”-group has its own physical training programme that is compulsory for players in this group.

Competition possibilities are offered through minitennis-tournaments organised at GVLK and other local tennis clubs, the team members may enter together with their coach.

The “Mini-Team”-coach is certified with at least a “Competition Coaching”-degree (STL).

PRE-COMPETITION COACHING (from 8 years upwards)

The goal of coaching is developing active competition players for the future. The basic elements of coaching include adopting the core of tennis technique, developing game intelligence and emphasis on the sports features of tennis.

Training duration: 1,5 hours, frequency: three times a week in various groups subject to the level of skills.

The “Pre-Competition”-coach is certified with at least a “Competition Coaching”-degree (STL).

The “Pre-Competion”-group will take part in competitions organised by GVLK and other local clubs, as well as national junior competitions. In order to lower the threshold for participation, we intend to enter all competitions together. Players in this group will take part in at least five competions during the season.

A two-day training camp in Pajulahti during the autumn is included in the training programme.

COMPETITION COACHING

Intended for junior/young players that represent GVLK by competing actively in national-level competitions. Players are required to participate in 15-25 competitions or league games during the season.

“Competition Coaching”-players have 6-10 hours of tennis-training per week (between Monday and Thursday). Training duration: 1,5-2 hours per single session. Coaching may be arranged even during morning hours as well as occasionally during weekends. External training partners may be used as training partners. Players are required to participate in physical training arranged by the club as well as to follow their specific physical training programme. Each player has his/her own responsible coach.

The responsible coach designs an individual training programme and competition schedule for each player. Coaching progress is followed-up on regular basis by the coach, the player and the parent.

Coaches join the players at the national championships and JGP-competitions of their own age group. The players are responsible for enrolling at the scheduled competitions.
